Well some of us were holding onto hope that the NDP would join the PC and not support the Liberal budget. Word is that the budget will now pass, meaning there is very little hope for the horse track now and even less for the slots. Well, it may be for the best for the employees who can now move on rather than stick around not knowing what the future holds.

It was only a few weeks ago that this council made a pledge to all they could to save our slots and track. Well in one week the slots are closing. Did they even lift a finger?

Lord knows that our home town of Fort Erie has become the victim of both poor municipal, provincial and federal politics by the top decision makers’ respectfully. So what baffles me is why Councilor Rick Shular is getting dragged through the coals by the Nimbies in town? Well, other than the fact that this is just what they do, attack anyone and everyone who exposes them for what they are.

It has been almost a year since Councilor Hill proposed something be done about the rising prices of gas in the province of Ontario. On April 26th,2011 just 4 months into his term on council John proposed the brilliant idea to do something that apparently nobody else thought of and that was to petition Dalton McGuinty to set up a task force at the Municipal level even, to investigate rising gas prices and to notify the appropriate persons.

Somebody in Doo Doo! Who can it be?
Well it isn’t hard to figure out but there was a point on this last week’s council agenda that stood out too many of us that there was a councilor in some trouble. Which one, I am not at Liberty to say and would only be guessing but it would be a pretty good guess. If I were a betting man I would bet on it having something to do with a conflict of interest issue and leaking documents, but I can’t be sure.

Crystal Beaches New Neighborhood Plan Will Turn Residents into Smurfs!
Some residents of Crystal Beach are against a condo going into their neighborhood so they have taken matters into their own hands and developed a new and improved neighborhood plan which will turn Crystal Beach into Smurf Village. The plan calls for local cottages to be transformed into giant mushrooms and a magical veil that will cloak the village from evil developer’s eyes.

Where Does Fort Erie Rank in Canada’s Best Cities to Work, Live and Play In?
Sadly, it doesn’t. Out of 190 cites ranked in this year’s Money Sense list Fort Erie didn’t even make the grade. So my question to all the Nimbys is this, if everything is fine the way it is and we don’t need these developments, how does Fort Erie fall behind a place like New Glasgow, NS?

Leadership Now? Why not right from the beginning?
Like many who attended the council meeting last night, we were treated to what essentially was a pep ralley. Allot of promises and vows to fight for this town and put aside petty differences and turn it around. My feeling was that all 7 members of council were sincere in their speeches, last night! That is great but why question is, why now? And what are you going to do? Set up a task force?

Rick Shular Says Enough is Enough!
After speaking with Councilor Shular today the man has eased my mind a little bit. He does caution that now is not the time to make quick cut and run decisions but enough is enough with the nonsense and time to prioritize these town issues.

I think it is important to write about Councilors Passeros response to my earlier blog and to remain fair, after all, we all want Fort Erie to be a better place and the fact that he addressed it is respectable.

What is the message councilor Passero is sending in our darkest hour?
By now many Fort Erie Residents have seen the front page of the Fort Erie Times featuring Councilor Stephen Passero with his arms on his hips in front of the Fort Erie Slots giving his best, we just got sucker punched look. Here is the problem, Passero mugged for the camera not as a town councilman but as the president of the Chamber of Commerce. Bad move Steve… Really bad move.

The Final Word on the Canadian Motor Speedway and Leaded Fuel
So as you all know, there has been a tremendous amount of debate about leaded fuel and the Canadian Motor Speedway. We have been saying all along that this track will not use leaded fuel and we have provided links as proof.

There is so much bashing going around on Social media and in certain media outlets concerning Kim Craitor. But Kim also has a huge amount of support as well. The problem is people are lashing out without understanding any of this.

It ain’t over till Jim Thibert says it is over! As I write this, Jimmy and his crew are hard at work still trying to save the slots and the track. How? They are looking into options to privatize it and he is on the phone talking to potential investors and looking to the government to allow this to happen.

How quickly some people forget what Kim Craitor did for us.

Hey Fort Erie Council, What Now?
Right about now close to 300 people are asking themselves this very question. What now, where do I go from here? I know, I have been there. Nobody knows about the employment situation here in Niagara better than myself. The more education you have the lower your prospects are.

People are the Responsibility of Governments People are NOT the Responsibility of Corporations.
So why this slot closure doesn’t make any sense is a matter of perspective. I have heard both arguments and when it is put out there and it is a pretty good argument. I also don’t agree with many of my friends who believe that politicians should be business people. This is a perfect example happening right now.

Let the Blame Game Begin!
Already Facebook is alive with yesterday news that the slots have received an execution date and I am seeing allot of Craitor bashing. Look, they guy has done more than anyone to try and stave this off, well with the exception of Jim Thibert of the EDTC and our Mayor, who by the way the Nimby knuckle heads are all over and blaming them right now. No, we can’t even blame the 4 councilors for this either. This falls directly on the Liberal Leadership, not one Liberal MPP from Niagara Falls.

It Ain’t Over Till The Conservatives and NDP Say It’s Over! Horse Racing is Still Alive!
That is the message here that needs to be understood when it comes to losing our track and our slots. What the Liberals don’t have is a majority government like they did in the past so making things like this happen needs to actually make sense for everyone not just Dalton McGuinty. Let’s not forget that Tim Hudak is from here and now is his chance to not let us down.

So Bowers is at it again and trying to stir up more shit by dragging Mr. Rich into this mess. Imagine that, Bowers actually going after an American for a change, I wonder why? Oh that’s right, because Mr. Rich supports Doug Martin and Mr. Rich actually has a plant here in town that provides jobs.

What is a True Politician?
This morning I feel inspired to try and send out a positive message, especially to our current councilors. Kim Craitor is the perfect example of what a true politician should be. We are a political commentary blog and we hold our local politicians accountable to what they do and say through our words. Some don’t like us very much and label us as bullies while others label us as heroes. We are just looking for honesty and truth and security knowing that our leaders are really doing what is best for our community.
